What makes something timeless? Must it evoke memories that never fade, or can it be a persistent recurrence from the modern every-day? Are memories required to look old or feel old, and is the modern required to look new or feel new? If you did not know that the settings were modern, could you tell when the photos were taken? AV posits that if an image creates a feeling, resurrects a memory, or transports you to anywhere else or to any-when else, whether real or imagined, then it doesn’t matter. Or, in other words, those are the images which are indeed Timeless.

Currently in Columbia, SC, I have moved around between here and my native Chicagoland a few times, plus a stop in OH-IO. Thank you for sharing my way of viewing the railroad and the world. I hope you enjoy the resulting images and the thoughts they provoke as much as I do.

Did you know? Ambrotype images were produced in the late nineteenth century by developing images onto glass plates, thus inspiring my professional namesake from my personal surname.
